It’s been a busy week around Peoria Music Live!
While the website changes so far have been great, we have more coming! (CLICK HERE IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN PHASE 1 YET) Don't worry, though, I'm still finding time to enjoy plenty of live local music. Last weekend found us at three very different kinds of shows.
We celebrated the wedding of some friends at Marlene’s Event Barn, where Mariachi VIVA Tecalitlan brought the party to life. Mariachi has deep roots in Mexican culture, and experiencing the music in the middle of a celebration was a great reminder that live music doesn’t always need a stage or a concert ticket to create a memorable moment.
Saturday, I started off at Five Points Washington for The Oak Ridge Boys. After more than five decades and countless honors and awards, it was great seeing and hearing them up close! It’s amazing how we can know every word to a song we haven’t heard for years, or even decades, the moment the first chords are struck.
After that, I jetted over to the Peoria Rock ’n’ Roll Reunion, where some of our own local music history was taking over the outdoor stage at Oz'z. Musicians connected to bands including Gulliver, Winter Harvest, Lay-Z, Screams, The Hollywoods, Ready Steady Go, and Actual Proof came together for a night celebrating decades of Peoria rock ’n’ roll while also raising money for the future of Peoria’s music scene being cultivated at the non-profit music school Harmonize Peoria. It was a great show and a fun place to hear stories from Peoria's rockin' past.
Last weekend brought me to three very different events, that were three great reminders of just how many things “live music” can mean.
