Fairly often, I’m still deciding which bands to see as the weekend approaches. Sometimes I still haven’t decided as I’m typing the intro to the weekend list. This week is one of those weeks. There has been so much going on!
Last week, though, I had decided where we were going a week ahead of time.
I love getting out and seeing as many bands as possible, but sometimes it's nice to settle in somewhere and enjoy the whole evening without watching the clock. I told my husband, “I don’t want to bounce from venue to venue next weekend. Let’s go one place on Friday and see two bands we love… Easy Riders and Butta’ are at Kenny’s.” I had also seen that Daniel Watkins’ band, River Valley Rangers, would be in town and playing at Pour Bros on Saturday. And just like that, our weekend was planned.
Loaded fries with a side of sour cream at Kenny’s Westside.
Friday night at Kenny’s Westside was exactly what I’d been looking forward to. Easy Riders and Butta’ gave us two great shows without ever having to leave the building. There were so many friends in the crowd, and Kenny’s has that wonderfully laid-back atmosphere where you can catch up with people, enjoy some great music, and just hang out. Throw in an order of loaded fries, and I couldn’t have been happier. (I know there are a lot of tot fans out there - for me it’s the fries.)
Both bands gave us plenty of reasons to stay put, and it felt like the night had just started when I realized it was after 1 AM. It was nice being somewhere without worrying about where we need to go next.
Saturday took us to Pour Bros for River Valley Rangers, and it was great to see them! My favorite part was hearing them play a Daniel Watkins original I hadn’t heard in awhile, “Elizabeth.” When I’m constantly hearing new original music and band jams, there's something especially fun about hearing an older original that I actually know some of the words to.
It was a great weekend of live music and I’m looking forward to what’s next!
You don't have to wait until Thursday to start figuring out your weekend plans. Our events calendar at PeoriaMusicLive.com/events has shows listed well in advance, so you can look ahead, make some plans, and maybe even discover a band you haven't seen before.
I'm still figuring out where we'll end up this weekend! While you're making your own weekend to-do list, take a few minutes to check out the photos and videos from our visits to Kenny's and Pour Bros last weekend. Then scroll through the list below and see what catches your eye. There's plenty of great live music waiting for you… and maybe you’ll see me out wherever you are!
