You may have heard that WWCT 99.9 is holding their 2nd Annual Request-a-thon next Friday (December 10th) to raise money for the Heller Center for Kids with Cancer and Children's Hospital of Central Illinois. During a Request-a-thon people can call in a request for any song, in any genre, for a donation to these charities... $10 to have a request played or $25 to have their request played before the others.
The extra cool part about this is that they are including originals from local artists this year!

Andrew Voras wrote one final piece before he finished up his second-to-last semester at Bradley and left his internship with PML to head home for the break. We wish him all the blessings as he begins a new artist management internship in Hollywood in January!

Andy and Asher met at an open mic at Neon Bison earlier this year. Since then they’ve formed the group First Date Kiss and have been working on original music.

Bummer Dude is a three-piece “sorta sad-mostly mad-gettin’glad-ladyled-emopunk band” based in Peoria, comprised of vocalist and guitarist Emily Wymore, bassist April Johnson, and drummer Maggie Gough, two of whom are currently attending Bradley University.

Bradley student Sydney Alpers shares a lyrical analysis of the Prairie Fire That Wanders About from Sufjan Stevens’ 2005 album Illinois, connecting the song to Peoria’s history.

Concert and sports venues come and go, but how many American cities can lay claim to hosting events at an auditorium built from two surplus World War II airplane hangars? Until the Civic Center opened in 1982, the Fieldhouse was the go-to venue for touring acts to play Peoria. With a capacity around 7800, not every major band came to town, but there were plenty of memorable concerts at that funky old double hangar.

Former Peoria resident, John Amberg, shares about his first concert experience when he saw Bily Joel and The Beach Boys at the Glen Oak Amphitheater in 1976.

My memory of the time Jonas Brothers came to Peoria is a bit cloudy, but I am proud to say that I was there. I didn’t get too drunk to remember or anything; I was just six years old.

Between my mom’s love for them and MTV’s rerun of their TV shows, I was a huge fan of The Monkees and love telling people it was not only my first concert in Peoria, but my first concert ever.

As much as some people wish it wasn’t true… having Wi-Fi available in a bar, restaurant, or music venue can be an important part of bringing people in, keeping people there longer, and making them come back, especially when live music is happening. Facebook wants to help make offering free Wi-Fi more useful to venues and other small businesses than ever before.
