It's Memorial Day Weekend and the unofficial start to summer is here, which means there is so much more live music to get out and enjoy! While you figure out where you're headed this weekend, check out this week's photos and videos from two shows we saw recently.
Last Sunday, we stopped by the Peoria Public Library North Branch for the latest Music in the McKenzie concert featuring Harlan, Meister, Mitts, & Elam. The show was filled with acoustic favorites, rich harmonies, and stories shared between songs. It was the perfect laid-back Sunday afternoon show.
Tuesday night, Chicago Farmer and Carsie Blanton took the stage at the Contemporary Art Center for a SOLD OUT fundraiser supporting LULA, organized by Jerry Kolb.
Chicago Farmer’s opening set included several songs from his newest album, HomeAid, (which I now own on vinyl) bringing a newer, slightly heavier sound than some are used to hearing from, but everyone still loved. It was a perfect balance with his trademark storytelling and humor, setting the tone for the night.
Carsie Blanton followed with her signature blend of humor, activism, sharp songwriting, and hopeful energy that carried the room the rest of the way.
Together, they made for a night that was all about people standing up for what they believe in and using music to support those in the community who need it most.
It was a reminder that live music matters now more than ever. It brings people together, gives us a reason to slow down for a while, and reminds us how much we still need each other.
Where will we see you out enjoying and supporting the community this Memorial Day weekend?
